Dermal Fillers
A Guide to Dermal Fillers
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies and contributes to skin hydration, volume and elasticity. It is therefore intuitive to use hyaluronic acid fillers for aesthetic procedures.
HA fillers are a gel- like product created using synthetic hyaluronic acid, used to restore volume, add contours and diminish lines and wrinkles.
HA fillers can be used in multiple areas and can address a variety of concerns such as marionette lines, nasolabial folds, lip rejuvenation, mid face volume and/or definition loss, and chin augmentation.
A natural result is the combination of multiple elements being considered and a bespoke treatment plan being created for every client.
The first important consideration is whether filler is the correct treatment option to successfully address the concerns that you have. The second is the type of HA filler being chosen to work with:
Does the product withstand facial stresses whilst being able to adapt quickly to everyday facial movement? Is the product being used to replace structure and scaffolding, or to smooth and soften? At what depth is the product best placed? Is the amount of product used a considered and appropriate one?
A natural result is therefore best achieved following a detailed aesthetic consultation. A bespoke treatment plan will then be created for each client detailing how any product would be used and what would be the intended result.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does HA Filler Treatment Work?
HA filler works be providing physical replacement of lost volume. The hyaluronic acid also attracts water to actively hydrate the tissues.
What happens during a filler appointment?
At Dr Rebecca Griffiths - Medical Aesthetics you will arrive for your filler treatment appointment fully briefed in what is going to happen. The comprehensive nature of the FREE aesthetic consultation means that you will have had plenty of time and space to discuss your proposed treatment plan and will have a full understanding of what is able to be achieved.
Pre-treatment photographs will be taken and stored in your personal records. Your skin will then be numbed for approximately 15mins using a topical cream. The skin is then cleaned using a medical grade product before the procedure is started.
The filler is injected using a purposefully designed needle from a pre-filled syringe thus maintaing sterility from packaging to placement. Once placed, massage may be performed to improve the finished result.
What can fillers be used to treat?
HA fillers can be used in a variety of different places to achieve a variety of different aesthetic outcomes. They are best used when they replace or restore lost volume. In this role they are an excellent tool when wanting to rejuvenate facial features that have declined with age.
When will I see the results?
The results when using filler are instantaneous, but the final aesthetic appearance is best judged at 2-4 weeks when any swelling has completely resolved.
In certain areas, for example lip rejuvenation, when in pursuit of a natural and less detectable result there is sometimes value in more than one treatment session. This allows more intricate work to be titrated carefully and for the final volume required to be better predicted.
